Analysis of Dr No scene

m- The background of the scene is the beach which normally is a connotation of peace, quiet and serenity going along with the singing it creates a sereal atmosphere, where nothing is to be expected. The actress is wearing a bikini confirming mulvey's theory as she is attracting the male gaze (provokative clothing). The knife by her side takes away the 'sexyness' of the scene with dangerous and violent connotations.

i- The main values and ideologies of the extract are to do mainly with the mix between the connotations of the bikini and the connotations of the knife. The main ideas follow the pattern of, women can be sexy and in control at the same time, still remaining authoratitive in their own way.

g- The genre of the film is the same as the genre for all of the james bond films as they want to keep the same theme going throughout their films as they have a big fan base. The genre is action mixed in with spy thriller with james bond holding the key to both types of genres.

r- At the start of the scene, the woman is left as a passive female with her not being able to do anything as she walks out of the water attracting the male gaze (literally from james bond) however that suddenly changes as we see a knife by her side which connotes violence and danger which proves that women have more than one role in the films. Even the male in the scene is acting as a passive person as he doesn't know what to do with her coming out of the water and is soon on the back foot as the woman reaches for her knife and draws it out.

a- The audience members for this particular scene would be males of a middle age as they would like to see the woman walking out of the water as she is wearing provokative clothing and is attracting the male gaze. This can be proved as this scene was voted the sexiest scene by channel 4.

i- As with the rest of the movies the storyline is done by ian fleming while the director and the producer of the film are Terence young and Harry saltzman with the institution being metro goldwyn mayer (mgm).

n- The narrative of this particular scene is that the actress (ursula andress) is playing the bond girl and she walks out of the water with a knife and with goggles on and is singing as she comes out of the water, meanwhile james bond is standing in the shadows of the trees watching and starts singing with her aswell and she draws her knife out connoting the violence making the male passive (sort of like a role reversal).
