Basically, in relation to my thesis, i am going to focus on a few specific things in particular. Firstly, i am going to look at Dr No (1962) to show what the represemtation of women was 40+ years back compared with what the representation of women is nowadays, looking at Die another Day and Casino Royale.
In Dr No (1962) the scene in particular that i am going to look at is the famous scene of actor Ursula Andress (when she walks out of the water with a bikini on and a knife by her side) compared with the scene from Die another day with Halle Berry (when she walks out of the water in a bikini with a knife by her side). The idea behind this comparative analysis is to show that the representation of women in James bond movies has not changed over a period of 40 years. In looking at these scenes i am also going to look at the similar scene from Casino Royale where Daniel Craig walks out of the water almost reversing mulvey's theory of the male gaze and almost creating the female gaze. However, there are other scenes in this movie which do confirm mulvey's theory, for example at the start of the movie when bond is on the beach with a woman who is wearing a provokative dress (the dress is low cut n stuff), and these types of scenes will be used to prove one side of my thesis that james bond movies do still confirm Laura mulvey's theory.
